Attraverso – Gorée

Creazione nata per la partecipazione alla Mostra Collettiva “Escursioni Marine”, presso il Museo del Mare di Genova, e successivamente presso la Sala San Tomaso a Venezia nel 2021.

Il tema del mare visto da un Oblò è diventato un’occasione per ricordare la sofferenza (ancora attuale) di molti esseri umani che venivano rapiti brutalmente dalla loro terra e dalla loro vita per essere deportati come schiavi nelle nuove terre d’oltreoceano. L’oblò, con grate spesse e arrugginite, lasciava intravedere il turchese del mare, unico spiraglio di luce ed aria che permetteva a non tutti loro di sopravvivere. Il nome Gorée è una memoria dell’isola degli schiavisti al largo delle coste del Senegal, luogo di partenza di questa triste e violenta serie di “Escursioni Marine”.

The theme of the sea seen from a porthole has become an opportunity to remember the suffering (still current) of many human beings who were brutally kidnapped from their lands and their lives to be deported as slaves to the new lands overseas. The porthole, with thick and rusty grates, allowed a glimpse of the turquoise sea, the only glimmer of light and air that allowed not all of them to survive. The name Gorée is a memory of the slavers’ island off the coast of Senegal, the starting point of this sad and violent series of “Marine Excursions”.
